The Christmases have ended, all four of them. It has been fun and I have enjoyed playing with my new Nikon D3300 and all the accessories I received. Now it is time to seriously decide how to use this tool to it's fullest.
I am going to start by calling the camera shop in Fenton, Bill Meier studios and setting up a lesson for Brian and me. Knowledge is power and I believe that is true in all things. I love the stuff I am picking up on YouTube and Google searches, but having someone to ask in person will be beneficial I believe. Also, I need to be more serious about my "play' time with my camera. I wasn't really keeping track of all the little changes I made in each photo. I am talking about all the settings. I have just been willy nilly with that. Keeping track and keeping notes will be a much better tool.
One thing I have learned already is that utilizing the free Nikon download software is extremely helpful. As I click on each photo, the software tells me exactly what setting were used on that picture. What a great tool and to think, I was just disregarding it. I wanted to solely use an editing software to improve my photos, that will never make me a better photographer.
Patience, that one is going to be tough. I can't learn everything overnight or even in a week. Of course that doesn't stop me from wanting it...LOL. I want to be like a sponge and just absorb all this stuff that I am learning, but right now I am more like a wash cloth, some of it stays and most of it drips away. I think I have it and then I go to take the photo and I can't remember. It is like, oh, was I supposed to open the aperture wider or smaller for those details? What was the ratio of that shutter speed to lens length again? Should I adjust the ISO or the aperture or the shutter speed or turn on the flash? So many choices and my head is just spinning.
So starting today, in addition to playing, I also start learning. It will be a process, but that is all part of this journey. Also, instead of putting all my practice photos on my album pages, I think I will put only some of the best photos on the album pages for the sake of the journey. I will supply a link though to a page (yet to be determined) with an album of all my practice photos. This will allow you to see the good, the bad and the ugly and learn with me. I will make it a practice to list the shutter speed, aperture, ISO and focus length of each photo. This will allow you to see the differences along with me and to learn what I learn.
I hope to have some photos to share with you later this evening. In the mean time, here are just a few from this morning and last night.
I am embarking on a new hobby with my husband. An interest I had as a child has recently been reignited. This blog is an outline of my journey as I learn the skill of photography and maintaining a journal through photo and video medium.
